. In the early 1960's, the consumerism cycle had been going on for about a decade. John Kennedy had been elected President in 1960. The post WWII baby boomer were into their teenage years. Life for the average citizen was good and getting better. When president Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963 in Dallas Texas, the shock wave that struck the nation far exceeded that which occurred with the 9-11-2001, New York, World Trade Center terrorist attack. The mood of the nation shifted dramatically. The events that followed President Kennedy's assassination were much more bizarre than the assassination itself. President Johnson and FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover were both strong Kennedy haters. Both had motives to want President Kennedy out of the way. Both were completely in charge of the investigation, overseeing any and all assassination investigations. Johnson and Hoover both fit the picture of potential assassin orchestrators. Both had the means, the motive, the opportunity, the ability to set up the assassination. Both had the means to destroy, cover up, and/or alter criminal evidence which gave them the ability to get away with any crime they chose to commit. Oswald was very likely part of the assassination team. The Warren Commission was almost certainly secretly instructed to reach the conclusion that Oswald acted alone. The investigation of the Kennedy assassination had so many twists and turns that it is commonly called "forensic creativity." We'll probably never know the truth, but President Kennedy's assassination, and the events that followed it pushed the mood of the country into a downhill spiral from which it has never fully recovered. This is the same era when the birth control pill and LSD first arrived on the scene. Marijuana, an old ally of the pleasure seekers was "born again." As the baby boomers entered their college years, an explosion of sex, drugs and rock and roll was stressing out the older generation. The Viet Nam war, which even it's former proponents believe was a mistake, was in full swing. American Soldiers were dying daily for President Johnsons war. Martin Luther King was murdered on April 4, 1968, and two months later on June 5th, Robert Kennedy were also assassinated. The protests against the war became so widespread that Johnson decided not to seek reelection. If he had not been murdered, Robert Kennedy would have, almost without a doubt, been elected president in November of 1968. Instead the nation was cursed with Richard (I'm not a Crook) Nixon as the 46th President of the United States. Nixon Had Serious Delusions about sex, drugs, Jews and blacks. In August of 1969, the baby boomers pushed the limits of sex, drugs and rock and roll with the famous or infamous Woodstock Music Festival held in upstate New York. All the public hoopla over this weekend event, triggered a serious outbreak of Nixon's paranoia with sex, marijuana and LSD. This caused him to seek outlawing both marijuana and LSD. He couldn't outlaw sex but he could seek to outlaw marijuana, LSD, and graphic depictions of sexual activity that are commonly known as pornography.
Nixon's Delusions: If you listen to or read about the Nixon Whitehouse tapes, it soon becomes obvious the he was a homophobic, anti-sexual, anti-marijuana, anti-Semite. According to his logic, Jews, promiscuous sex, drugs, and homosexuals were about to destroy America. You might also note that repressive societies are anti-homosexual, they oppose promiscuous sex, and they don't want the people to have access to mind-expanding-substances, such as marijuana and LSD. Anti-government-policy protesters tend to be sexually free, they commonly use marijuana and many of them are gay or lesbian. This made anti-marijuana laws a valuable tool for destroying Nixon's opponents. Nixon was a strong proponent of using government laws to "screw his enemies." . |
. In his paranoia, Nixon set up a commission to study the use of marijuana. He made former Pennsylvania Governor Shafer head of the commission and told Shafer that he (Nixon) wanted a report which supported his views. Nixon wanted a report which concluded that the government should be tough on marijuana use, that marijuana possession and use should be a crime, and he wanted the commission to come to these conclusion no matter what the facts and the evidence might indicate. The report entitled: "Marihuana: A Signal of Misunderstanding," was completed in 1972. In spite of the pressure form Nixon, the report, proclaimed that "neither the marihuana user nor the drug itself can be said to constitute a danger to public safety" and recommended Congress and state legislatures decriminalize the use and casual distribution of marijuana for personal use. When the commission recommended its legalization, Nixon ignored the commission's findings and created the anti-marijuana disaster we are still experiencing today. . |
. President Lyndon Johnson set up study to determine if obscenity was harmful and if it caused social problems. The study was not funded until Richard (I'm not a Crook) Nixon became the president. Even though Nixon added anti-pornography crusaider, Charles Keating, to the commission, the commission did not come to the conclusion that he wanted to hear. Charles Keating: Keating filled a dissenting report, claiming that the commission had come to the wrong conclusion. In the late 1980's, Keating was caught playing a major role one the biggest banking (savings and loan) swindles of the 20th century. Apparently according to Keating, sex is bad but stealing money is good. . |
